There are weddings that follow tradition, and then there are weddings that transport you to another realm entirely.
This past October, I had the absolute pleasure of documenting a celebration that felt less like a modern ceremony and more like a gathering of clans in a grand hall.
From the moment the first notes of The Lord of the Rings soundtrack echoed through the room, it was clear this wasn't going to be an ordinary day.

The Attire: Custom Gowns and Viking Steel
The bride was breathtaking in a custom-made fantasy gown, embodying a regal, ethereal grace. Beside her stood a groom and wedding party straight out of a Norse saga, clad in traditional Viking outfits. The attention to detail was incredible—even the one-year-old flower girl was dressed in tiny, authentic Viking garb!
What made the atmosphere truly immersive was the guests. Respecting the "Fantasy" dress code, the room was filled with capes, tunics, and even hand-carved staffs. It felt like a true union of worlds.
Personal Touches & The Dragon-Born Spirit
The reception was a feast for the senses. The tables were adorned with autumnal flora and Viking-inspired decor, where guests toasted the happy couple by drinking from traditional horns.
As a photographer, the "vibe" of a room is everything, and the music set the stage perfectly. During the reception, the couple played a curated medieval and fantasy video game playlist. Hearing the sweeping scores of Skyrim while capturing the festivities made me feel right at home—it added a layer of epic nostalgia that everyone could feel.
Two Ceremonies, One Bond
The day was a beautiful journey of rituals:
The Formalities: They began with a legal ceremony led by a registrar.
The Sacred Circle: As night fell, the mood shifted to something deeply personal. Under the guidance of a dear friend, the couple took part in a pagan ceremony.
The Rituals: Surrounded by a candlelit circle of protection, they participated in a handfasting, shared a sip from a quaich, and sealed their journey with the traditional jumping of the broom.
A Night of Contrast: Walzes and Metal
The evening concluded with a perfect display of the couple's personality. They shared an elegant waltz for their first dance, before the speakers roared to life with German metal. It was the perfect high-energy end to a day rooted in legend and lore.
This wedding was a reminder that your big day should be an unapologetic reflection of what you love. Whether that's the Shire, Skyrim, or the shores of Kattegat—embrace your inner hero!
